Smart Devices
Introduction
This paper reveals the roles of smart devices in the lives of people and in the business arena. The paper high supports the topic by highlighting different roles of smart devices in the life. The last part of the work is the conclusion part which gives a synopsis of the topic under study.
A smart device is a tool which is meant to enhance efficiency in operations in an organization and in today to today lives of individuals. A smart device comprises of electronic features and unlike other electronic gadgets, the tool has unique qualities of operating without a cord and is very potable to enhance convenience. The device is able to detect internetwork connection through WiFi and other methods of internet accessibility that is based on wireless networks. The device has emerged to suffice the activities in the business arena and in the daily lives of human beings. Activities such as video streaming, voice transmission, internet accessibility and location searching have been made very easy (Weiser & Mark, 2009).
Poslad,(2009) in his view asserts that smart device is an to the question of efficiency and effectives, the device has emerged at time when life is about convenience and therefore it is very important for the growth of businesses and enhancement of living standards of people in the society. The latest technological trends reveal that smart devices will soon outmatch the corded devices which rely on direct power connect and inhibits the element of convenience. The smart devices will soon occupy every space in man’s life spanning from his personal life at home to the business life in the organizations where he works.
According to Hansmann, (2009) smart devices have emerged at the time when human being intelligent have gone a notch higher and convenience in thinking need to be enhance by the use of features such as ubiquitous computing. The computing approach enables easy access to information to people and helps in solving day to day problems, the system act as a personal consultant to individuals in the society and solves many problems at a go. The multipurpose element behind this computing approach has greatly improved the quality of lives, for instance, in the domestic life the system enables one to control the operations of devices such as fridges, ovens and lighting systems. A mobile phone can today be programmed to act as a remote control for other devices in the house such as television sets, stereo systems and electronic laundry devices.
The smart device therefore integrates the elements of social, psychological and cultural elements of life. The device proves the in clear cut ways the positive impacts of technological in the paradigms of human life. Information processing and transmission has significantly changed to the emergence of the smart device. The positive advancement has impacted not only in the social facet of life but also the economic arena, today businesses can be conducted any where any time for the purposes of convenience. The view is supported by transport economics where operations are cost efficient when the cost of transportation is low. Transport enhances mobility but consumes a lot of time which can be diverted to do other useful things which may be beneficial to businesses and individuals in the society. Research shows that without if operations are consolidated at in a particular location, then the element of efficiency is highly enhanced. It is in the light of this fact that smart devices were enhanced to reduce the time spent in moving activities and people from one place to another (Greenfield, & Adam, 2008)
Smart devices are meant to blend different features in the environment that comprises of the following, the computer environment where information transmission is vital for purposes of networking for enhanced communication, this facet is necessary for business operations. Communication in the business arena is very important for purposes of coordination and thus enhancing productivity in the organization. Effective flow of information in an organization is also very necessary for in areas of strategic planning where to develop good strategic plan sufficient information is vital for the managers to identify the areas that need improvement. Information in an organization is also very important to conduct a proper organizational evaluation. The computing environment is needed in the business arena to enhance automation of operations. Automation has subsequent benefits of enabling an organization to reduce labor costs and enjoy increased productivity. Today, every operation in a business environment relies on computing for effective service delivery to its ultimate customers (Hansmann, 2009).
The emergence of smart devices has also transformed the models of businesses in the business environment; most organizations today are shifting to knowledge based economy dominated by knowledge intensive firms. Research shows that knowledge based firms are the most efficient and the most profitable; these businesses earn a lot revenues by developing programs and soft wares that are used by the smart devices. Unlike other organizations that incur a lot of marginal and variable cost to produce their products, knowledge intensive firms does not incur very high cost to produce their products and thus enabling to enjoy economies of scale and high profitability (Greenfield, & Adam, 2008)
In the human oriented environment the smart devices have played a greater role in improving the quality of lives of human beings across the world. Smart devices such as tablets and Smartphone have enhanced communication between people in different geographical locations. A research conducted to asses the level of efficiency of smart phones posits that the users preferred the phones for its features of enabling proper organization since they have high functionality for doing things in a fast and effective way. The users also preferred the devices because of enhanced flexibility whereby the phone can be used to do many things at a go, for instance a student can use the very phone to take notes when attending lectures, a senior manager of an organization can use the phone to record appointments and access the contacts while doing many other things such as browsing the internet (Weiser & Mark, 2009).
Consumers of smart devices also able to access information on many issues ranging from weather forecast, business news, traffic flow and sports news. Information is easily shared between users through emails and through micro blogging websites such as twitter and face book which enable interactions with friends and relatives, the sites enable people to interact and exchange ideas and views. The micro blogging websites have also emerged as the best marketing platforms in the online business. The devices also enable consumers to have access to the most recent information on the internet since the devices have greater internet connectivity. Smart devices like the smart phones and tablets are very useful in video streaming and therefore very important for video communication between different individuals in different locations.
The devices enable easy synchronization of data between computers and other networking gadgets, take a case scenario where a manager attends a business meeting in a another location different from the office, the manager will only have to transfer the information in the smart device into the data administration management system within the organization, thus making the information to be used for the benefits of the business (Greenfield, & Adam, 2008).
The devices are easy to use and are more reliable, they employ the touch screen mode of operation thus making them efficient Smart devices enables easy networking as they can easily access internets in WIFI enabled locations. The devices enable people to easily navigate various geographical locations since it employs features such as Google Maps to enable people to identify various locations where they are. Easy navigation of regions enables individuals to locate and tour places that they like and enable them to avoid getting lost in strange and new locations. From the map an individual can easily locate significant landmark in a place such as historical buildings and monuments.
The devices are used by organizations to market their products and services, since they enable the business to have a greater access to internet markets. The organization can also access and communicate easily with its suppliers. The devices have transformed marketing to due enhanced online e advertising that employs quality applications and enable consumers to easily see the products. Online advertising is less costly as compared to print media advertising that consumes a lot space and takes a lot of time to develop. Marketers turn to online sites with view that most consumers are available in the online sites due to the devices which have enhanced accessibility to internet sites. The devices play an important role in promoting brand loyalty among the consumers of the products, since organizations can easily communicate with their consumers in different locations across the world, take a case scenario of Dell Inc which used information from the consumers to develop demand pull marketing strategy that embraces the specific features that consumers like in a product and thus uses the features to customize the products (Greenfield, & Adam, 2008)
Smart devices have also helped to transform the banking sector by enabling the introduction of mobile banking system. Individuals and businesses in the society can now access their bank accounts at the palm of their hands. They can withdraw and deposit money without necessarily moving into the banking hall. Individuals have therefore been able to save a lot of money through the mobile banking system.
Inventions have taken things a notch higher by enabling the smart devices to be used in the health sector, to monitor the condition of patients when at home. Doctors do not have to move around to see the patients to confirm their conditions as the data can be transmitted to them by the smart devices, a good example is a case whereby some smart phone use the simcard platform to transmit heartbeats to the doctor thus enabling the doctor to easily monitor heart beats especially for the patients who have undergone heart operations. The development is one of the most important contributions of the smart devices in the health sector that is used in transmission of patients’ data. The devices have also ensured easy storage of data than most mobile devices. The application software used by the devices also ensure data security by ensuring that information stored in the device cannot be accessed by other people except the owners. This feature is very important in the business environment and in the personal lives of various people in the society. Data stored in a device such as a tablet that is used by a top manager of organization can be easily secured given that there is a password that denies access to unauthorized people (Weiser & Mark, 2009).
Conclusions
From the above assertions, it is therefore imperative to conclude that Smart Device Changes Industry and life. The device plays a great role in the business world by promoting efficiency. The use of smart devices by organizational members increases the speed and access to important information that is vital for the growth of the organization. Elements of strategic planning have been made easier than before as reliable and accurate information can be easily obtained by the members of the organization
In the social facet the devices have gone to extent of enhancing access to health care; improve interactions between people in the society. The smart devices have emerged as personal consultants to many across the world since they enable easy access to any type of information.
