Admission Essay
I have grown to be a person who is interested in the well being of people around me as well as the surrounding environment. I am a person of integrity who has learnt to live each day at a time. It is for this reason that I have learnt to be very keen while making crucial decisions as far as my life is concerned. Notably, my desires and interests are not in born but are instead developed every minute, every day of my life. I have learnt from my own experiences as well as from other people in the society. Being brought in humble family, I have learnt to be humble, obedient, focused in every aspect of my life. I am a person of a great character and I am also open-minded. Due to the many experiences and achievements that I have encountered in my life, my choice of study is influenced by these experiences.
Having gained social and communication skills in my past studies, I was left in a dilemma of choosing between two mutually exclusive courses that requires the application of the mentioned skills. The courses have equal prospective of impacting my life. The two courses necessitate helping people out in time of need but the only thing that differed was the field of practice. However, I was able to decide between two courses later in my life.
One time as I was getting home from school, I encountered a mob that was beating up a man who was alleged to have stolen from a lady in the street. The man was badly injured and no one seemed to care about him. My conscious directed me to offer a helping hand to the wounded man but on the other my instincts could not allow this as what the man was caught doing was an act of injustice. Moreover, the condition of the man made me develop emotions which also mired me from offering any substantial help. I became so sympathetic and eventually, I was carried away by his condition. I had no courage to handle such a condition.
On the other hand, I am very principled person who only follows what is right. It is for this reason that I was left in an ethical dilemma between choosing two rights. Helping a man was a sign of good morals and on the other hand consoling the lady who looked so devastated was also a good ethic. From this instance, I developed a desire of helping out people. With adequate social skills I feel that I can be suitable not being in the field of medicine but in the field of psychology where I will interact with my clients. Through this experience I learnt that I do not have enough courage to handle certain medical cases since I am an emotional person. From this juncture, my academic interests were directed in gaining competency in the field of psychology.
In addition my source of inspiration is the Oprah Winfrrey show where I have seen her positively transform people’s lives. I believe that if I excel in the field of psychology, I will impact and help people out which has always been my heartfelt desire. I have a liking for social sciences and humanities which have also prompted my desire of expanding my skills and knowledge in the field of psychology. I strongly believe that my skills will be nurtured and cultivated in your institution. I am a hard working person who is focused and goal oriented. I am a team player who can inspire and be inspired and I have a strong feeling that I can institute an inclusive mission in the institution that will positively impact the lives of many people. My inspiration to help out people of all kinds will help me introduce diversity in your institution. I am humbled person who is not discriminative with mission of fostering change in the society. This will in turn help in creating understanding and respect among different people thereby paving way for diversity of skills and talents in the University.
My yearning to impact and better other people’s lives has also been instigated by current musicians in search of peace, harmony and a world that knows no boundaries, a free world, free from illness and calamities. Contemporary Musician, Alicia keys, has greatly inspired me through her vigorous campaigns of creating peace and fighting the HIV Aids predicament especially in African countries.
However, in the recent past, I have seen and heard people taking their lives, others killing others due to stress, frustration, resentments, depression to mention but a few. It is quite evident that this people lack a person to make them understand and handle different life situations as they come. This has been of much concern to me and I believe given a chance of realizing my dream of studying psychology in your institution, I will work harder in order to change lives of many people through helping them out with their psychological issues and needs.
I am a sociable person, resilient, industrious, a team player who is easy to handle, teachable, tolerable and given a chance to fulfill my dreams of helping out people in the field of psychology, I will have positive effects on many people’s ways of lives thereby completely changing the face of our society. My character, performance, aspiration and my life mission have proven that I can give to the society as much as I get from it. Therefore, I strongly feel and believe that my skills will be well refined and expanded in your institution. I also trust that your institution hold the ability of making me realize my dreams through shaping me and making me a better and significant member of the society. I have the ability and potential to adapt to any challenging learning environment. I will therefore look forward to joining and building up my skills in field of psychology.
