Introduction
The movie, Black Swan is a melodrama psychological thriller that is based on the on a novel,” Black Swan”. It is a ballet movie that has been developed by strong character formation. Notably, the star is a female character, Nina, who is the back bone of the entire movie. However, there are over twenty casts in this movie. The movie is set in the, New York, United States of America during the 1940s.
Plot Summary
The story is about a young female character who is a dancer. She is chosen as the head of Swan Lake production that is based in the city of New York. Nina is required to display the traits of a black Swan who depicts sensuality and cleverness as well as the traits of white swan that shows grace and innocence. She finds herself in a lot of pressure whereby her demanding mother set in motion for her to succeed while on the other hand, her dance master orders her to become seductive. Although her fascination for the ballet is common for all the other dancers, Nina obsession is causing mental and physical effects to her wellbeing.
The antagonist and the protagonist of the movie
It is worth noting that Nina takes both roles of antagonist as well as protagonist. She is the star of the movie. She is caught with the tasks of endeavoring to transform her character. She is supposed to comprehend both the white Swan side as well as the black Swan side. From this perspective she is required to understand both evil and good. Nina is tirelessly trying her level best to fit the two sides. We see her character transformation in the movie but her efforts causes her mental and physical torture. She is in complete madness. She is the central character who is contending with her physical and mental being thereby ruining her. She is therefore her own enemy since she ends up ruining herself. It is from this perspective that Nina takes the role of both the antagonist and protagonist in the movie.
Memorable Images in the Movie
Notably, the director of this movie has clearly indicated perfection in his work. The images are intriguing and clear. They are framed well with good lighting and shadows as well as color. However, the intensity of the images differs with different scenes. The director has impressing correct angles of camera, correct rhythm as well as a brilliant composition. The shots are very attractive with impressive effects. From all indications the photography involved in this movie is quite outstanding.
I think the images are incredibly realistic. Through the images, we are able to learn the intended qualities of the two starring ladies in the movie. Nina at times appears innocent and fragile while Lilly appears pretty with an attitude. The most intriguing and memorable image that I saw, are the images taken in bedroom of Nina. Through the impeccable images, we are able to underline that Lilly’s persuasiveness and influence have serious effects on Nina. However, the director of the movie applies both disturbing and intriguing images that are usually least expected in a movie.
The images create a description of a dancer whose character yearns for success but when the success is not forthcoming, her mind slips off. Her zeal has lead to obsession which has consequently led to transformation. The one sexual scene that I have seen in this movie is quite entertaining for adult audience but misleading to minors and youth. However, I find the scene quite important in the sense that it would enlighten young and innocent mind of sexual tight spot. Particularly, Nina the star in this movie is evidently a sexual poser but she cannot solve her sexual dilemma. Nina does acknowledge that she is a virgin yet we have evidently seen that she lives with her overprotective mother. This is a human condition that depicts denial. We do not know who we are despite our actions. Nonetheless, the images from this scene have clearly shown that we as human being give utterances which are contrary to our own deeds. Such utterances can be sentimental to our lives.
There is another memorable image of Nina where we see her smashing her music box and throwing her stuffed animals. This indicates a sense of relief for her. By doing so she is throwing all the caution to the wind an indication that she finally want to be independent. Similarly, human beings have different ways of expressing their anger, relief or a sign of victory or defeat. She her secretly destroyed her life through her own wells. Evidently, the dance has also contributed to her problems leaving her emotionally and physically affected.
Conclusion
The black Swan is an intriguing movie though hard to understand. However, the movie is entertaining and educative. The educative and entertaining aspects of the movie have been illustrated through the characters, the setting as well as the different types of images applied by the director of this movie.
